St. Vincent Hospital in Leadville, Colorado is seeking a full time Physical Therapist.

Position Title:   Licensed Physical Therapist

Required Certificates, License, Registrations

  • Current License of Physical Therapy in the State of Colorado required
  • Demonstrate initiative to stay current with technological changes affecting the practice of physical therapy.

Required Education/Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years current experience as a licensed Physical Therapist

Qualification Requirements

  • Current State of Colorado Licensure.

Language Skills

  • Verbal and written communications.
  • Proficient use and understanding of medical terminology.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) helpful.

Reasoning Ability

  • Appropriate application of policies, procedures, regulations and verbal instruction.
  • Ability to cope with stressful situations and maintain communication skills throughout times of stress.

Position Summary

The position is responsible for restoring patient’s function, alleviating pain and preventing disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed physical therapy. Therapist must be comfortable with mixed case load. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Meets the patient’s goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining physical therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
  2. Help patients accomplish treatment plans and accept therapeutic devices by administering manual exercises; instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities, such as nonmanual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, and daily living activities and in using assistive and supportive devices, such as canes, crutches, and prostheses.
  3. Administers physical therapy treatments by giving massages, initiating traction; applying physical agents; utilizing hydrotherapy, moist packs, ultraviolet and infrared lamps, and ultrasound machines; directing treatments given by aides, technicians, and assistants.
  4. Evaluates effects of physical therapy treatments and fit of prosthetic and orthotic devices by observing, noting and evaluating patient’s progress; recommending adjustments and modifications.
  5. Completes discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers and other health care workers; contributing to patient care conferences.
  6. Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing home exercise programs; instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs; recommending and/or providing assistive equipment; recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs.
  7. Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records per facility and insurance guidelines.
  8. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and procedures.
  9. Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  10. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies.
  11. Develops physical therapy staff by providing information; developing and conducting in-service training programs.
  12. Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  13. Actively promotes the physical therapy clinic with referring providers. Excellent communication and promotional skills are required.
  14. Promotes positive interpersonal relationship and demonstrates effective communication skills to solve problems, to carry out hospital policies and procedures, and to coordinate patient care.
  15. Maintains effective communication with personnel and medical staff through regular conferences and meetings.
  16. Applies information learned during informative learning sessions and effectively teaches other pertinent information.
  17. Accepts work assignments as delegated by the DON
  18. Accepts responsibility for solving interpersonal conflicts, reports conflicts which cannot be resolved and require intervention by the DON
  19. Demonstrates patience and tact when dealing with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare team members. Communicates and interacts with patient’s family in a way that is perceived by the family as positive and supportive. Takes steps to decrease stress and/or increase effectiveness of coping mechanism of patients and families having difficulty dealing with injury and hospitalization.
  20. Demonstrates flexibility in working hours and schedules in order to meet the needs of the Physical Therapy Department.
  21. Remains current with industry changes and information. Maintains certification in designated skills as defined by Colorado
  22. Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to policies and procedures of Vincent General Hospital.
  23. Maintains confidentiality in all health information matters.
  24. Promotes good relationships with other hospital departments in order to achieve optimal working conditions. Demonstrates flexibility and willingly accepts responsibility, notifying supervisor when additional work can be assumed.
  25. Receives, evaluates and discusses suggestions and constructive criticism in a professional manner.
  26. Checks with supervisor before any overtime is accumulated
  27. Other duties as assigned.  

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Extended periods of standing to perform job functions.

  • Ability to lift, transfer, and assist diverse patient population including patient fall prevention. Lifting may be repetitive throughout shift and include significant weights which vary with patient population.
  • Travel throughout facility including stairs.
  • Finger dexterity for physical manipulation.
